When one thinks of samurai, they typically think of someone who is an excellent swordsman and wears a straw hat. I’m not sure how accurate that is, but I’m not here to judge.
There are many great swordfighters in anime, but some of the most well-known and well-loved anime swordfighters include Kenshin, Naruto, and Bleach. Each of these characters has their own unique style and fighting techniques that make them stand out from the rest.
In our anime swordsmen tier list, we’ll be ranking them both by their skill with the sword, as well as their overall power. And maybe just a hint of likability. ..
20. Mi-Ra Yu
Anime is a genre of Japanese animation that typically deals with the lives of high school students. This genre is often considered to be lighthearted and comedic, and its popularity has led to it being exported to other countries.
I think Mira is a good starting point for this list. She is definitely heading towards the mastery of the sword, but is still very much in her learning stages.
In the first half of the show, her Moon Light Sword style is shown to be very powerful. However, it’s only in the second half of the show that she even awakens her sword.
It’s clear that she has a lot of training under her belt, but her skills are not as strong as those of the other contestants. She is last on this list.
19. Anri Sonohara
Anri has the opposite problem from the last two picks. He is very fast and can shoot, but he also has a lot of weaknesses.
She’s a powerful woman, but she seems to be struggling to use her sword effectively.
She’s a powerful swordsman who can control people with her sword. It’s a lot of work, but she seems to be very strong and unbreakable.
If she ever truly masters her sword and starts jumping around the battlefield, she’ll be near unstoppable.
18. Askeladd
Since Vinland Saga is largely based in reality, Askeladd doesn’t really have any flashy moves that can be easily pointed to and said “look how good he is”. ..
He has a lot of accomplishments to his name, but he also has some serious feats under his belt.
Thorfinn’s lack of challenge against his father already shows a lot. He is, however, capable of taking on dozens of enemies. ..

17. Mugen
Mugen is a swordsman who is just as skilled with a sword as he is with a bow. He has no problem using his natural abilities to take down his opponents.
In a way, his unorthodox fighting style is his biggest strength. Samurai can’t seem to predict his movements, so he’s able to take advantage of this by using his quick reflexes and agility to win fights.
Mugen is probably equal in power to Jin. However, I think Mugen can adapt much quicker and has yet to achieve his full potential. Which is why I choose him for this list. I also like him a bit more. ..
16. Stain
Anime: A young boy named Izuku Midoriya is a rising star in the Hero Academy, but he’s not content with just being a average student. He wants to be the best, and he’s determined to make his name as one of the greatest heroes of all time.
I think Stain has a very mediocre quirk. Sure he can paralyze you, but he has to draw blood first and lick it.
Compared to other methods of vaporizing, giant ice projectiles, or even just impenetrable skin, blood licking CC isn’t all that effective. ..
Despite his lack of formal training, Stain has a unique ability to use the blade effectively.
He dismantles a few dozen pro heroes without so much as a scratch, and even inspires a whole new generation of villains.
15. Yami Sukehiro
Yami has some impressive statistics overall. So I think he could beat most people with a simple stick, but his katana looks way cooler.
The protagonist, due to his magical ability, is able to hit his opponents with powerful swings in the later parts of the series. He also uses his ki to perfectly predict any incoming attack and deflects light attacks while holding a conversation. ..
I’m not sure how much of Yami someone would call skillful, but I’m sure that we can all at least agree that the man is powerful.
14. Nobunaga Hazama

Which is actually pretty tame for a god according to anime standards. But he was obviously quite the big deal in his own universe.
He’s not as powerful as he once was, but if we take into account his glory days, I think this placement is justified.
10. Akame
Anime: Akame ga Kill is a dark and violent crime story set in the world of the samurai. It follows the story of a young girl, Yui, as she becomes involved in a criminal underworld to save her family from execution.
However, towards the end of the show, she started to act strange and began to use her sword in ways that were not safe.
After learning that a single cut is essentially a guaranteed victory, the OP began going towards the category.
In the final season of the anime, we learned that despite popular belief, Akame can tap into the hacks category of fighting. And she became the most powerful character in her entire series.
This fighter is only good for one fight. She hasn’t shown off too much of her actual skill yet, so she gets the mid-tier on this list.

He still has a great skill.

Hyakkimaru’s arms are literally swords. So he didn’t need much help on that front. ..
