Finding Cave of the Past

Cave of the Past is the final dungeon in Earthbound. Once you’ve completed Ness’ dream section of the game, your next destination will be Saturn Valley. ..

Unfortunately, it can’t function without a meteorite piece.

You’ll be able to find a meteorite crash in Onett at the very start of the game. This is your next destination.

Teleport to Saturn Valley and fight your way through the town all the way to the crash site. Examine the meteorite to take a piece of it, and then teleport back to Saturn Valley.

The meteorite piece next to Dr Andonuts can fix the Phase Distorter, which is now ready to take you to the Cave of the Past.

The Phase Distorter is a dangerous and powerful machine that can change your mind about the world. If you’re not careful, you’ll end up in a place where the only thing left is death.

Obtaining the Gutsy Bat

The bionic Krakens can be found in the second and third area of the Cave to the Past. The best place to find them is just after the first teleporting sphere, around halfway through the dungeon.

The bad news is that they are a very rare animal.

The party is fighting against a large group of enemies, but fortunately they are always fought alone.

If you’re lucky enough to encounter a Gutsy Bat, your chances of success are only 1/128 or 0.78% depending on the luck of the RNG gods. Be prepared to put your faith in the gods for this one.

Is The Gutsy Bat Worth It?

Ness’ Legendary Bat is also found in the Cave of the Past and is a slightly more powerful weapon. If you’re looking to get your hands on it, you’ll need to think hard about whether it’s worth it to grind for it.

The Gutsy Bat is not as strong as the other bats, but it gains a massive boost in guts which makes up for its lack of strength. ..

If you go for it and get the drop, then you’ll find that Ness will be getting off almost all of SMAAAASH attacks.
